What is the "Assignment of Operators to Vehicles"?
The listed driver with the highest SDIP Step is assigned to the vehicle with the highest combined premium for the Bodily Injury, PIP, Property Damage Liability, and Collision coverages. For each subsequesnt vehicle, the listed driver with the next highest SDIP Step is assigned to the vehicle with the next highest combined premium until no vehicles remain. By law, all household drivers must be listed on the automobile policy.

Any driver listed on the policy with a Massachusetts Automobile Policy of their own will be a deferred operator. Thus their driving record and/or experience will not reflect on this policy, unless that person is the only driver.

When there are more vehicles than drivers on a policy, the excess vehicles are assigned the SDIP Step of the driver with the lowest SDIP Step, unless it is above SDIP Step 15. In such a case, the excess vehicles are assigned SDIP Step 15.

If a driver's SDIP Step is greater than SDIP Step 15, it will not be billed on more than one policy in effect at the same time.
